Learning Targets:

I CAN identify poetic devices

The students 90 minute reading block will consist of 4 components: Word Work, Guided Reading, Shared Reading/Literature Circles, and Independent Reading. 

 

Word Work: The students will learn how to decode words by using context clues and phonics. The students will be learning prefixes, suffixes, affixes, Greek, and Latin Roots. 

 

Guided Reading: During instruction we will work on reading skills, strategies, and fluency. 

 

Shared Reading: During shared reading, the students will be applying the reading skill using an educational website or reading to a peer. The students will choose a novel to read and engage in deep discussions about what they have read. They will also complete projects as well. 

 

Independent Reading: The students are reading Absolutely Normal Chaos. 

SPELLING

Each week for homework, your child will have 4 spelling activities and a spelling test. The spelling activities are due on the day of the spelling test (usually Fridays). The spelling activities will consist of flashcards, 20 sentences, and 2 assigned activities to be completed on loose leaf paper. I will update the spelling words and activities weekly on Friday.
